i read the blog, and for my own reasons, i hoped the images would be on b&w film! i know. i know. you don’t shoot with film! then, i just hoped they be in b&w! what can i say? perhaps, nothing is best.

i also photographed women who tend pygmy goats for my “portable universe” series! cute animals. okay, back to the girl….i looked at the series, and i feel that if you’d hung out longer, talked with the girl more….perhaps, the feeling that you wanted would have happened to your liking. i’m not sure, that i feel detachment as much as a focus choice that has me wondering, and i tend to like gazes that reveal feelings more than points of focus.

this is so subjective of me! i think you feel and understand being disconnected, and i think you are grappling, because you aren’t sure this nailed it.

    or…toss everything i said!

Thank you for your kindly considered remarks! It’s true….I don’t shoot film. Your subjectivity is most welcome. : ) And of course you are right, I’m not at all sure I nailed it. But I think it’s useful to learn from our near misses. Yes….perhaps more time was needed. As photographers we must be tenacious, but also consider our subject as well. The differing focus points had as much to do with thinking that I needed to be respectful of her privacy and age….and so the soft focus ‘allowed’ me to keep shooting. Had she been with her parents I would have felt comfortable staying longer. It’s a stretch for me (photographing people) so I am happy to try and to keep trying. Thank you my friend for taking the time to comment!
